Dinner is served, madam!

Recently, a realtor quipped comically to me, “Now, if only my house would cook my dinner for me!” Well, wouldn’t you know, not only can your house cook your dinner, it can do so with pizzazz and style!

There are a ton of smart home appliances out there these days, and with the power of home automation, you can have dinner cooked, the ambiance mood set, and a show put on for you.

Instant Pot Smart WiFi 6 Quart pressure cooker

The Instant Pot WIFI 6 Quart pressure cooker can make your dinner and have it hot and ready for when you return from a long day at work. The magic of this appliance is actually in it’s phone application. There are hundreds (over 750) of preset recipes settings in there. Just use the quick search function to find what you’re making and hit go.

You can set a schedule to cook later in the day so your food is very fresh, or you can set it to cook immediately and keep warm for you. A third options is to cook it, then reheat it before you get home. All of these options are easily configured in the app. You can set it, and forget it, and the Instant Pot will have dinner all ready for you.

How about some smart toast!? This might fall under the category of “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should” as who wants to leave two slices of bread in the slots over night to dry out?

Anyways, some cool features of the Griffin smart toaster is how much you can customize it to your personal preferences. With it’s bluetooth capability, it will know if you put in the bread, or if your spouse did, and it will cook to your preset liking’s. Do you like your bagel a little more well done than your toast? The presets will handle that for you. You don’t have to think about a thing before your coffee…

Speaking of coffee!

Almost every coffee machine manufacture out there is making smart coffee machines now. From Hamilton Beach to Mr Coffee, everyone is jumping on the bandwagon.

The Smarter Coffee machine pictured above adds the benefit of having a grinder involved in the mix as well. Fill it with you favorite beans, then on the app you can set the grind, and a schedule, or have Alexa or Google Home obey your command, and start making your coffee.

Don’t even get me started on smart refrigerators. There is little that these monsters cannot do. Here is a great article on the pro’s and con’s of smart fridges and some of what they can do for you. To sum them up for you though, they can do everything from let you know you’re low on milk, to taking that instagram picture of your food for you…..and post it.

Last but not least, you can turn any “dumb” appliance into a smart one with the addition of a smart plug. Do you like your Bunn Coffee machine but don’t want to leave it plugged in all night? Here is your solution.

A smart plug will integrate with any voice assistant, and any home automation hub to work on command or on schedule. They can employ safety features to shut off after a given amount of time and so on.

Needless to say, there are a lot of ways out there now in which your home can prepare your food for you. A smart home properly equipped will give you more time to work on other projects or catch those last few minutes of Outlander, and still be able to enjoy a hot meal and cold beverage.
